I'll be back
I'm taking a bit of a break on the blogging but I'll be back at it next week. I had to put my last cat, Athena, to sleep this past Saturday and though there's a lot to write about I'm just not up to it.
Stay tuned, though, because my next post will be on the books of James Herriot.

How old was your cat? We had one that finally died in her sleep when she was about 18, but that's the oldest one I've ever had. We have dogs, and some cats at various times. Putting them down may be what you have to do, but it's a hard thing.

Hi Suek,
Athena was 15 and I think about 2 months. That's about 80 in human years, so it's old, but not terribly so. The vet said that's about average, though as you are testimony some do live much longer.
And you are right, having them put to sleep is hard even when you know it's right. I had to do the same to her playpal, an orange male named Bengal, two years ago. He was about 13 but since I didn't get him as a kitten I'm not totally sure.
Truthfully though I'm glad her life turned out the way it did. Neither she nor Bengal died in some preventable accident that would have given me feelings of guilt, and neither died while I was away or something. They died in my arms which is how it is supposed to be.
Eventually of course I'll get new cats and begin the cycle again. But I need some time, and at least need to get past the elections and into the new year.
